அவர்கள் உங்கள் அம்மாவை வதைக்கும்போது

மரமொன்றை நடுங்கள்

அவர்கள் உங்கள் அப்பாவை வதைக்கும்போது

மரமொன்றை நடுங்கள்

அவர்கள் உங்கள் அண்ணன், தம்பிகளோடு

 உங்கள் அக்காள், தங்கைகளை 

வதைக்கும்போதும்

மரமொன்றை நடுங்கள்

அவர்கள், உங்கள் தலைவர்களை,

அன்புக்குரியவர்களை

 படுகொலைசெய்யும்போதும்

மரமொன்றை நடுங்கள்.
அவர்கள் உங்களைப் 
பேசமுடியாதபடி,
மிக மோசமாக

வதைக்கும்போதும்
மரமொன்றை நடுங்கள்.
அவர்கள் மரங்களை வதைக்கத் 
தொடங்கி, 
அவர்களே உருவாக்கிய 
காட்டினை வெட்டினைச் சாய்க்கின்ற பொழுதில்
பிறிதொன்றைத் தொடங்குங்கள்.

plant a tree
When they torture your father
plant a tree
When they torture your brother
and your sister
plant a tree
When they assassinate
your leaders
and lovers
plant a tree
When they torture you
too bad
to talk
plant a tree.
When they begin to torture
the trees
and cut down the forest
they have made
start another.

 தண்ணீரைக் காணும்போது 

நீரோடை ஒன்றில் தண்ணீரைக் காணும்போது

நீங்கள் சொல்கிறீர்கள் : ஓ! இது ஓடைத் தண்ணீர்;

ஆறு ஒன்றில் தண்ணீரைக் காணும்போது

நீங்கள் சொல்கிறீர்கள் : ஓ! இது ஆற்றுத் தண்ணீர்;

கடல்நீரைக் காணும்போது

நீங்கள் சொல்கிறீர்கள் : ஓ! இது கடலின் தண்ணீர்!

ஆனால் தண்ணீரென்பது உண்மையில் எப்போதும்

தண்ணீராகவே இருக்கிறது.

மேலும், இந்தக் கொள்கலன்களை

அதுவே உருவாக்கியபோதிலும்,

அவை எதற்கும்

அது உரிமையானதில்லை;

அப்படியேதான் நீங்களும்!

When you see water in a stream
you say: oh, this is stream
water;
When you see water in the river
you say: oh, this is water
of the river;
When you see ocean
water
you say: This is the ocean's
water!
But actually water is always
only itself
and does not belong
to any of these containers
though it creates them.
And so it is with you.
